About Me
My name is Peter Chapman and I live in Beverly Massachusetts (USA). Software development has been a hobby of mine for as long as I can remember. Nowadays, it puts food on the table and is mostly centered around web development. Building web applications has become a lot more productive with the maturing of PHP(5) and the proliferation of solid frameworks available (for PHP and Javascript).
If you are interested my life history, read on...
Zimbabwe I was born and raised in Zimbabwe where I studied electrical engineering. I worked briefly at the University of Zimbabwe engineering faculty and then went on to join Microtech, an Apple Dealer/distributor.
UK At the age of 21, I moved to the UK with my then girlfriend (now wife) where I joined CSS systems (a multi-vendor PC sales/support company) which went on to become the largest UK Apple dealer.
Travel In 1990, I took 18 months off to travel. Spent 4 months touring around Europe on a motorcycle and the went on to Southern Africa for a few months. After Africa, we went on to Australia for 5 months and then through South East Asia, before returning to the UK.
UK I picked up my career again in the UK and joined a small startup company, 4-Sight which grew rapidly and expanded into Europe and the USA. My roles at 4-Sight were varied, spanning software development (mostly c) through Tech Support and QA. I went to manage the Support and QA departments and was ultimately transferred to the USA to assist in developing the 4-Sight presence here.
USA I spent the first six months in Des Moines, Iowa before relocating to Boston, Massachusetts. In 1998, 4-Sight merged with Wam!Net and I took up the opportunity to relocate to Minneapolis where I took on the role of Director (AMS). My stint at Wam!Net was a whirlwind of experience and opportunity which included playing a major role in the creation of their European Operations Center on Belgium.
Beverly, Massachusetts (Current) After leaving Wam!Net in 1999, I returned to the Boston area and joined Marketing By Design- a former 4-Sight client to head up and develop a newly formed sibling company, Workflow By Design (WBD). WBD builds and hosts web based workflow applications targeted at the graphic arts industry. I left WBD in July 2008 and joined DNSstuff based in Newburyport in a development role.
